Who'll lend a big ear
So you know speaking up is important. But who’ll listen when you’ve got something to say? Here are the go-to guys when you need to get something off your chest.
Your boss. When it comes to talking safety, most managers and supervisors will be happy to hear what you have to say. If you’re not quite sure how to get the ball rolling, check out some
useful tips for talking to your boss. Also, have a look at the clip below from Canada, for some extra pointers.

Your HSR. AKA your health and safety representative. If your workplace has a HSR, it’s a good idea to get to know them and ask their advice when it comes to safety. Your HSR can act as the voice for you and your co-workers and has the power to speak up to the boss on your behalf (pretty important). So how do you know who your HSR is (or if you have one)? Easy – just ask your supervisor, or check with a co-worker.
Your union. If you’re a member, you can seek advice from your union or union rep. Not exactly sure what a union’s for? Check out these helpful
info sheets, tips and clips designed especially for you.
A more experienced workmate. Why not talk it out with someone at work who’s been in the job longer than you? It’s the same work place, so they’re bound to have gone through a lot of the same issues and should have some good advice.
Your parents or a favourite lecturer/teacher. Let’s face it. They know you well, can probably talk through the issues with you and can help nut out some solid solutions. It’s definitely worth asking the question.
